As I am up and working on one of the biggest grants I have written thus far, I reflect back to the very beginning of the creation of Loads of Dignity and the mindset, hope, and dream of what dignity truly means to me. Loads of Dignity’s mission statement is “Restoring Dignity one load at a time.” The meaning behind our mission statement is more than having clean clothes and bedding. We call them our “guests” because they should have the same feeling walking through the laundromat doors as they would if they were invited into any of our homes to use our personal washing machine and dryer, have a cup of coffee or tea, and enjoy a nonjudgmental conversation with us. Our “guests” deserve no less than any of us. They should have self-esteem, feelings of self-worth, and dignity despite their lack of resources, housing, or financial stability.
